PRESS RELEASE 1 – PROJECT LAUNCHING PRESS CONFERENCE

The implementation of the project „GRADe – Joint risk prevention and management system for Gradinari – Malu – Byala communities for a safe and developed cross-border region”, code 15.3.1.018, cofinanced by the European Union under INTERREG V-A Romania – Bulgaria Programme has begun

On 30th of December 2016, between the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration of Romania, acting as Managing Authority for Interreg V-A Romania-Bulgaria Programme, and  Territorial Administrative Unit Gradinari Commune, acting as Lead Beneficiary, was concluded the Subsidy contract  for the implementation of the project „GRADe – Joint risk prevention and management system for Gradinari – Malu – Byala communities for a safe and developed cross-border region”. The project is implemented in partnership with Territorial Adminstrative Unit Malu Commune and Municipality of Byala.

The project aims at reducing the effects of climatic changes on the environment in Gradinari – Malu – Byala communities which are located in the cross border area, but also at improving the planning and coordinating capacity of the beneficiaries. The specific objectives of the project are to improve the joint capacity, to increase the intervention capacity and to sustain a high level of public awareness in the area, in the field of risk management.

Some of the activities of the project consist of procuring equipments for an efficient intervention in case of floods, fires or heavy winter conditions, organizing awareness campaigns at the level of the communties involved in the project on the risks and measures taken in emergency situations, but also organizing joint applications regarding risk situations management.

The achievement of these objectives will result in increasing the quality of risk management in this area by training the human resources, by the effective intervention of the local authorities, but also in improving the planning capacity and coordination of emergency situations in case of flooding, fire or heavy winter conditions, as well as in raising the awareness regarding environment issues and protecting the population from the risk of these natural hazards.

The overall budget of the project is 705.521,22 euro, from which 85% are provided form ERDF, 13% from the Romanian and Bulgarian state budgets and 2% from the beneficiaries’ own contribution. The project implementation period is 20 months.
